Major Ports and Port Infrastructures
Venezuela has several important ports that play a crucial role in the national maritime economy. Among the most well-known, the port of La Guaira is a hub for commercial exchanges, particularly for general imports and exports. The port of Puerto Cabello is the largest commercial port in the country, with significant capacity for cargo and oil tankers. In addition to these two, the port of Maracaibo, located near the lake of the same name, is essential for the oil sector, allowing the transfer of crude oil extracted from the western region.
These port infrastructures are equipped to handle various types of cargo, including solid bulk, liquids, and containers. Venezuela is also investing in modernizing its facilities to meet international standards, improve maritime safety, and increase the capacity to accommodate large vessels. The management of these ports is primarily handled by public authorities, with a special focus on security and marine environmental protection.
