Main Ports and Their Economic Role
The main ports of Eritrea are the port of Massawa and the port of Assab. The port of Massawa, located on an island near the coast, is the country's main port and one of the oldest and most important on the Red Sea. It serves the majority of imports and exports, including goods such as oil, building materials, and agricultural products. The port of Assab, further south, also plays an important role, especially for the export of raw materials and as an entry point for goods to certain parts of the country and the region.
