The story of the MSC Oscar
In January 2015 the MSC Oscar, named after the son of MSC's president, became the largest container ship in the world — the first of the Oscar class built by Daewoo Shipbuilding in South Korea. Its 19,224 TEU capacity broke the record held by China Shipping's CSCL Globe after only two months, capturing the pace of the megaship race of the mid-2010s, when the record changed hands almost yearly as carriers bet on ever larger hulls to cut unit costs on the Asia–Europe run.
