Freight Forwarder
A freight forwarder is a logistics intermediary that organizes transport on behalf of shippers: booking space with carriers, preparing transport and customs documentation, arranging pre- and on-carriage, insurance and warehousing. Forwarders consolidate the demand of many customers, which gives them negotiating leverage on rates and space.
Unlike an NVOCC, a pure forwarder acts as an agent of the shipper rather than as a contracting carrier, though many large players operate under both models.
