Maritime Geography and Main Ports
Dominica, situated at approximately 15° 25' north latitude and 61° 20' west longitude, is surrounded by relatively deep waters with coral reefs that require navigators' special attention. The main port is Roseau, the capital, offering facilities for small and medium commercial vessels as well as cruise ships. Besides Roseau, other important anchorage points include Portsmouth on the northern coast, which has good facilities for transshipment and port services. Navigation around the island must be done cautiously because of reefs and depth variations.
