EU ETS (maritime)
Since 2024, shipping is included in the EU Emissions Trading System: shipping companies must buy and surrender allowances covering their CO₂ emissions on voyages to, from and within the EU. It puts a direct price on maritime carbon and is being phased in progressively — 40% of emissions in 2024, 70% in 2025, 100% from 2026.
