FuelEU Maritime
FuelEU Maritime, in force since 2025, caps the greenhouse-gas intensity of the energy used by ships calling EU ports, with limits tightening every five years to 2050. Unlike the EU ETS, which prices carbon, FuelEU pushes the fuel mix itself toward low-carbon alternatives such as LNG, methanol and e-fuels.
